Getting More Sales is in Your Control

Just about every business owner, sales manager, and sales person share the common interest of getting more sales. And while this might seem like a daunting task and something that you have no control over, the reality is that you do have control over your destiny and your results. You may think that it is more of a case where you sometimes have to be more “lucky” than “good”. And a little luck does not hurt, but there are some very clear and practical things that you can do to improve your ability to be “good”.

1. Get out and do professional networking

One of the quickest and most effective ways to increase your sales is to get out and invest time and energy in the area of professional networking. Not only can you potentially come across potential prospects while networking, but the real power comes when you build out your network to include people that can send you leads and become referral partners.

Just like anything else involved with selling, there are some clear things to do and not do while professional networking. First, don’t aggressively push your products or services. This will get you nowhere when it comes to getting more sales. What you want to do instead is express interest in the people you meet and try to help them. From that approach, you will build an army of people that are motivated to help you.

2. Pick up the phone and do some outbound calling

Many people will say that cold calling is dead and a waste of time. The reality is that it can be a challenging environment when calling, but when done right cold calling can be an effective way of getting more sales.

Some key steps to assess and place some attention when using the phone to generate leads is the cold call script that you are using, the target list that you are calling against, and your level of preparedness for objections that you are guaranteed to receive.  Those are examples of some of areas that can be tweaked to have an immediate improvement in results.

3. Increase inbound leads through search engine optimization

Is your website bringing in any leads? If not, that should be a place that time and investment could be made to improve results. Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the most powerful methods for getting more sales as it is the process of getting search engines to send you targeted traffic.

When someone puts in a keyword search into a search engine, the search engine wants to send the user to the best and most informative sites on the entered keyword phrase. And the good news is that there are very clear and practical things that you can do to get search engines to consider you as a reliable source of information.

4. Use social media to broadcast your message

It is still being determined how to best use social media to get more sales. But what is clear is that social media is a cost effective and efficient way to connect and communicate with a large audience of people. At a minimum, get on the platforms, grow your network, and broadcast messages of value to let your connections know that you are out there.
